The shipping container home was originally an idea to supply low cost housing for those who couldn't afford it while finding a use for all these shipping containers that are sitting in holding yards due to the crisis in export/import GFC as the shipping companys are shutting down and mothballing fleets so all these containers are sitting around doing sweet FA. So some bright spark came up with this idea, thing is now its become flavour of the month with even so called "reality" tv shows "renovating them"
