Oh Don't worry I saw it It's interesting how this rating lacks any reason why it's Foster's best film. Unless you consider a film violating some tenets and having a young streetwalker is enough of a reason. I think its more to do with the fact that this was really the first film that dealt with the loss of "innocence" of a Nation post Vietnam war and the psychological trauma that service person came back with without being aware and the dark places it can lead. Jodie is really the metaphor for that loss and she really pulled it off probably because there was an innocence about her not only as "iris" but also with her acting. Which had such an impact . Not sure if I explained that very well but hope you get the gist. Munze

More a coming to terms with it but saving a small piece in his world even if he means destroying himself in the process, but manifested in saving Iris as his last "good" deed. He doesn't go down in a blaze of glory in trying to save Iris but still becomes a hero and plays it down which is what real heros do, so in a way yes he saved a piece of innocence as Iris went back to her family. Problem was she really was no longer" innocent" but had a chance to find hers again.
