Jodie Foster on Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth in SCHINDLER'S LIST Jodie Foster discusses what makes Ralph Fiennes as Amon Goeth in SCHINDLER's LIST such a frightening villain, as well as how the "small things" done by Oskar Schindler (portrayed by Liam Neeson) make him so heroic.

Interesting observation
"if a whole nation had just done one small thing WW2 wouldn't of happened" JF.,
it is amazing though when you think of it how much fear can stop you doing that one small thing. Munze

The thing is you had a country in the depths of despair due to oppression due to the Treaty Of Versailles and Depression due to world economic situation a country on brink of disappearing altogether. The along comes this Charismatic guy who gives them hope by extolling the virtues of the people and the country, starts work programs to repair the infrastructure and give people work so they can feed their families and themselves but most of all they give them some one to blame in the Religious minority and also cultural. So you have a "Fear" of those so called to blame but remember together we are strong. then those that are being blamed Fear those they have lived with all their lives.
Appealing to peoples basic instincts and giving them something or someone to blame will work every time. If you ever watch some of the speeches he was an incredible orator he knew how work a crowd. Shame he was a megalomaniac as well he could of one of so much good instead of so much destruction and evil.
very quick summary otherwise I'd be here all day in some ways JF has a point may not of stopped it but may of shortened it. Oh then there was a German resistance movement besides the "Military" such as Stauffenburg an foch

I think she would have done alright making that movie. Too many people don't think for themselves. The reason there weren't more Oscar Schindlers is because spin and propaganda are such powerful tools.

Thing is people "like" to be told what to do diminishes the need for responsibility so much easier to do what you're told then when it all goes wrong blame some one else.
Oh and I'm not extolling anyone in these arguments I'm just looking at it from a neutral stance. I had a relative who was one of the first into Belsen so I know part of the horror. you also have to remember those scientists that laid those tracks also put men on the moon courtesy of the allies.
these things should never happen especially if we are as "civilized" as we wish to believe "only man kills man for pleasure" and greed and lust and religion has front row seats.

People find ways to exploit anything that fits their needs including over looking mass genocide as long as they can see an outcome. We have seen it throught out the centuries not just WW2, Russia made use of the scientists they captured as well. Medical Profession has used the experiments Mengle, Rauscher, Heissmeyer conducted in the KZ's, so much for professions ethics and the Hypocratic Oath. The Allies and Russians the aforemention "Rocket scientists" Even Speer was exploited while behind bars. I agree nothing will bring the victims back the question is when will WE actually learn we as humans never seem to do so. Is that what is meant by Human Nature? ?
