I saw that story a few days ago. It's ridiculous. The USA is such a backwards place.

I don't know, zsazsa. First of all it's such an unbelievable huge place that it makes me wonder how someone managed to make people feel as one nation, if we forget for a sec they share this nice flag and a (seemingly) inherent patriotism. If a little friction by a tiny religious splinter group (who obviously never understood the Book) is all then congrats. It's sad, very sad but it's not Northern Ireland or like ex-Yugoslavia.

It's just a puritanical place. I love my country, and I think it's amazing and truly wonderful that this place exists. This story is just one example, Mario, of a culture that is fighting terribly hard to progress into a new era of acceptance. Honestly, I could write an entire thesis on this subject; however, I'll spare everyone a sermon. America is exactly like any other place. We have our troubles. It's just that we are supposed to be the gold standard in the world, especially for the way in which we treat others. A lot of Americans espouse some very archaic and dangerous ideas, so my wish is that we can become better, more informed people one day. That task seems so much harder than it should be. Hope that makes sense. (And to clear something up: I never said that the USA was comparable to Northern Ireland or any other place that has trouble with religious misunderstandings and extremism. I just said that this country is "backwards," and it is. You read far too much into what I wrote.)

Ah you got me little wrong. I meant I'm very glad you don't have these problems of the mentioned countries. There's a lowest common factor you share, more like an idea and not what you could write into a constitution. I'm aware what you meant with backwards, didn't read into it, just wanted to put it in relation with other places. Ask arty, she knows I study the States

Actually this isn't the first time in States this happened almost every new baseball/softball season it comes up somewhere and then there was the girl that also wanted to play american football. I have always foun America a place of extremes Some places well educated friendly even wordly Then there are those who think if they cross the boarder into Mexico or Canada they have really been Overseas. Then these those who have never even been out of their own State some are the salt of the earth if maybe a little naive and some are just plain scary. As far as people watching is concerned it is amazing interesting and it is so far from the "perception" they give the world on TV and movies.

No big deal. I understand your point and agree with it.
